Floating Tea Cup Challenge

May 6, 2009

Now a Tea Party tradition, the Mayor of Oak Bay, Christopher Causton, challenges someone to a Floating Tea Cup Race.  Made of fibre glass and powered by mis-matched oars, it's a race of skill and daring.  Pull too hard on the oars and your saucer may dip into the water and you're sunk!  Not to fear, the Oak Bay Sea Rescue Society rescue boat is close by.

Past challengers have included Mayor Alan Lowe, Mayor Frank Leonard, Mayor Darwin Robinsin, publican Matt McNeill, Olympic rower Silken Laumann,  MLA Ida Chong,. David Hahn, President of B.C. Ferries, the Q's Ed Bain and, last year NHL hockey star Geoff Courtnall.

NEWS FLASH!!!

This year's challenger in the Mayor's FLOATING TEACUP RACE will be film actress MEG TILLY ("Agnes of God", "The Big Chill"), who is also an accomplished author.  Meg will be starring in the Bluebridge Theatre production of "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" in July.

The race takes place Sunday, June 5th at 4:00 p.m. at the Tea Party.  See you there!
